How to Achieve Success in Life
Focus on Success
To achieve success in life firstly you need to identify what you consider to be success. This can be tricky because the journey of life often encourages you to ‘change the goal posts’ once you have achieved certain things. It doesn’t matter what you want from life so long as you cultivate positive habits that will assist you achieving what you want.
Self Help guru Jim Rohn, after years working with people and studying the habits of those who considered themselves successful and those yet to achieve success they desired, concluded that there are three main habits that define those who are successful in life from those who aren’t. He listed the three key habits as: Goal Setting, Self Help and Sound Financial Planning.
1) Goal Setting:
Referred to as the view of the future Goal Setting is essential if you are to determine what you will accomplish in life. Most people, including children are willing to pay any price if they can see the promise of the future and the gifts and experiences it holds for them.
To help our children in seeing a well defined future specific future, will motivate them to pay the price of discipline and motivation today so as they can attain the rewards of tomorrow. Goal Setting is a primary tool to help children do this.
2) Self Help:
Quite simply, making a consistent investment in your self, your education, your skills and bank of knowledge is the most important investment you can make in yourself and pays significant personal, financial and spiritual dividends throughout your life.
Having a minimum amount of time regularly set aside for reading books, listening to speakers and lectures, attending seminars, keeping a journal and spending time with other successful people is of massive importance if you wish to achieve what you consider success in your life.
Self Help is made up of many things, including Self Confidence, Motivation and Education (not necessarily limited academia)
Charlie “Tremendous” Jones said “you will be in five years the sum total of the books you read and the people you are around”.
3) Financial Planning:
The most important principal of Financial Planning is referred to as the 70/30 rule, when receiving your pay check or paying yourself, set aside 10% for saving, 10% for investing and 10% for giving, then pay your expenses from the remainder. Over time this will ensure financial independence for a teenager.
The key to effective financial planning is spending less than you earn, and is the most effective way to build financial security for most people. You don’t have to be frugal to build great wealth, but you do need to be wise and have a sound understanding of your financial situation. Being a miser is no fun and accruing vast wealth for the soul purpose of accruing wealth will see most people end up unhappy and bitter with their lives.
Money is just a tool to assist you in achieving what you want. Combined with effective Goal Setting, sound financial planning will help you achieve whatever it is you desire in life.
Finally, and this is often overlooked, it is essential to enjoy what you are doing in life. Follow your Bliss, and Success will come to you in whatever you do.
